Bill presented a draft of a letter to be sent to all BID members inviting them to list their websites on the Viva Downtown website. Evelyn motioned to copy and mail the letter out to the BID members with a second by Kelli. All approved the motion.
John Truitt attended the meeting on behalf of Viva to request a $10,000 sponsorship for the Christmas Spectacular. Last year our contribution was $7,500 and they estimated 50,000 people attended over the 30 days. Viva will match this sponsorship and John advised they have another organization that has indicated it will also match this amount. An additional $20,000 from the community will also be needed. Mr. McDilda is planning an even bigger display this year. REU will probably provide power and the necessary hardwiring. There will be space available this year for BID businesses to put flyers or brochures. Viva also plans to do the open house and historic tree lighting again this year.
Also present at the meeting were Lorraine Hallmark and Joe Marsiano on behalf of the Redding Trade Club. They requested $1,500 for the Downtown Christmas Parade on December 6th. They also would welcome any and all volunteers. Last year the parade brought approx. 15,000 people to downtown. Last year we contributed $3,000. Due to successful fundraisers the amount needed this year is less.
Irene presented a letter from the Shasta Arts Council requesting $750 for the annual Silent Film Festival. We have contributed to this event the past 3 years.
Treasurer Vint Stevenson stated that we currently have a balance of $21,956 in our account after our final payment of $5,000 to Riverfront Playhouse and a deposit adjustment.
After discussion:
Evelyn made a motion to approve $10,000 to Viva for the downtown Christmas Spectacular. This was seconded by Dave and unanimously passed.
Kirk moved to approve $1,500 to the Redding Trade Club for the Christmas Parade with a second by Evelyn. All approved.
A motion was made by Dave and seconded by Kirk to approve $750 to Shasta Arts Council for the Silent Film Festival. All approved and the motion was unanimously passed.
Kirk has drafted a letter to the delinquent accounts which he will give to Irene. Irene will sign and mail the letter.
Irene advised that Nancy Inman on behalf of Viva welcomes new businesses to downtown. When Irene is not available to go with Nancy she will email for volunteers from our board.
Larry brought a press release from Shasta College Small Business Center regarding an upcoming workshop. Larry wanted to remind everyone that the center provides helpful seminars on a regular basis. Larry advised that the Redevelopment Agency is transferring title to the old Carl’s Tire building to Riverfront Playhouse. Escrow should close by the end of this year. Riverfront Playhouse is required to start construction with 2 years and then complete construction within the next 2 years. Otherwise the property will revert back to the City.
Dave commented that his business participated in both 2nd Saturday Arthops and he was very pleased with the turnout.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
Minutes respectfully submitted by secretary Kelli Ercolano
